Day 3- Horseshoe Basin, Middle Fork
Woke up to beautiful weather once again. Packed up and loaded the horse down and we were on the trail by 7:45 AM. The trail out was so much easier, after we had spent so much time cutting and clearing the trail in on the Middle Fork section. The early morning light on the mountains and flowers was gorgeous. I left camp with fairly nice blisters on my heels, but with the thought of Taco Bell in Omak for lunch they didn't slow me down too much. We made excellent time out, stopped once after we came off the steep section to readjust the saddle and blankets. The little one hiked a couple of the flat miles out, nothing slowed her down, still in good spirits. We made it to the truck and had the horse and all the gear loaded by 1:00 PM. Felt good to change cloths, crawl into the truck and head off the mountain. I would do it all over again, might even hike the same rough, uncleaned Middle Fork Trail. Lots of Aspen groves, I can just imagine the color come fall.
