The forecast called for rain, heavy rain so I kept myself busy finishing up my taxes until the storm passed. As soon as the sky started to break up and a little blue started showing in the sky, I was off running for my car. Such a pleasure to walk at my leisure as far as the eye can see over hills starting to green up, flowers starting to pop, so much life out there. A little bit of moisture made the flower colors pop and stand out. Enjoyed just taking my time to explore the Department of Fish and Wildlife area and seeing what was coming up. Love the smell of the outdoors after a fresh rain, the soil, the sage brush, such an earthy fresh smell. A beautiful spring afternoon to just spend sometime outside. Found some Shooting stars, buttercups, yellow bells, bluebells, little mustard type plants with bright yellow flowers and a few spring beauties were blooming. My love of wildflowers is still going strong even after many hikes and walks over these same hills year after year. I can never get enough of natures beauty.
Echo Basin was our last early spring hike in the Eastern Washington area. We were planning to hike the Frenchman Coulee side that heads toward the waterfall but changed our mind due to the amount of cars parked at the trail head. So down the road just a little ways we went to hike the Echo Basin trail. Even with a early start the sun was way too bright, not hot, just bright. We hiked up the jeep trail that starts on the left hand side of the road as your facing the Columbia River. Didn't seem like a real exciting trail till we reached the sand dunes, which put us closer to the rock walls. Up and over the sand dunes and on up a goat trail to get above the walls. Without really knowing were we were going we just winged it. Lots of faint trails and trails in the sand, hard to know which was the true trail.
